HOMEWORK Homework will be given to reinforce what has been taught in school. It is not meant to frustrate you or your child. This homework should take no more than an hour each night. All homework is subject to change. It is expected that students complete their assignments and hand them in on time. If they are not passed in on time, your child will fill out a homework slip and it will be brought home for you to sign. If homework assignments fail to show an appropriate effort, students are asked to re-do the work. While studying at home, your child would benefit from having a quiet, organized area to allow for optimum concentration. This will also help you in keeping track of any school requirements. Homework will be given out every Monday and must be returned by Friday. Of course completed work can always be sent in early. At times, math homework may be given out on a particular day and will need to be returned the next day. Students will write down when assignments are due in their daily planner. Assignments are as follows:
Math (Beginning week of 9/9) *Nightly fact practice. (Ex. Flash cards, math website practice: fun4thebrain.com and interactivesites.weebly.com). More websites are listed on the MKG computer lab’s site.
Reading Log (Beginning week of 9/9) *Read 25 minutes per night, Monday-Thursday *Reading can be silent or aloud to someone else *Each night, minutes read & book title should be written in your child’s daily planner. Mystery Research (Beginning week of 9/23) *One “Mystery Research” assignment will be given out each Monday and is due by Friday *The goal of this assignment is to find the mystery state or landform each week based on the given clues (3) *Look for keywords or phrases from the clues. These keywords can then be researched online, with S.S. book, or with other maps and atlases. *At least one clue also has a question that is to be answered on paper while researching. *Completed mysteries, which are correct, question answered, and with printed evidence or short written paragraph receive a 4. Please no more than 1-2 pages of printed evidence *Correct answers as well as answering all parts, without printed or written evidence receive a 3. *With the exception of a few Mystery Landforms, all answers may be found within the US. GRADING for Mysteries (Should we change what’s in ( ) to reflect report card language or keep as is? *4 same criteria as a 3 as well as an additional visual which represents mystery state/landform. For example, students can create a visual of the state bird, flower, etc, and illustrate or print pictures while including captions, altogether on ONE sheet or students may print one page with evidence and a visual. A short written paragraph will also be accepted. *3 state/landform named, website listed, questions answered *2 state/landform correct but missing website or answers to questions *1 – minimal effort; state/landform incorrect To help your student ease into a homework routine, homework assignments are gradually added each week.
